What is Just Like A Local?

Just Like A Local is an app designed to showcase an entire regional community in one place. It is free to download from the App Store or Google Play and can show your town’s businesses, community groups, schools, sports groups, interest groups, events and jobs.

Having access to up to date information encourages people to come along to your community events. Your town will be linked with other regional towns so that visitors can plan trips around regional events and make it easier to book trips and engage directly with businesses and groups in each area.

How do I download Just Like A Local?

Visit the App Store or Google Play and search for Just Like A Local. Look for our bright, colourful logo and download to your device for free.

Is the app in my community?

When you download and open the app on your device you will see a drop down list of the communities currently on the app. If yours isn’t there send us an email and we will start talking to your businesses and your community leaders.

I am in a community group, how will listing on Just Like A Local help us?

Community groups list their details and up to four events per year for free! This allows your group to easily inform your community of who you are and what you do and allows other communities to link with your group and promote opportunities.

Perhaps your group is also looking for volunteers? We can list that for you too!

How will listing our group help my community?

Engaged communities are healthier, stronger, more resilient and very attractive places to live. Residents can find it difficult to get up to date information about interest, sporting or community groups and rely on word of mouth. This app makes it easier to find correct information more quickly. Increased engagement is very helpful to regional communities and this app helps people access information about events, businesses, schools, jobs and volunteer opportunities.

I have a business. How does listing on this app differ from any other advertising?

Your business will list in the “directory of business” for your town, telling people where you are, what you do and listing your business hours. You can also take out a package that allows you to list your special offers, business events as well as list job opportunities.

Listing starts at $120 per year. This is for 24/7 access to your information with any changes you submit via email or using the forms on our website occurring within 48 hours of submission.

If you choose to take a package including special offers we can schedule them for many months in advance. You can also list several offers at one time.

Your whole town can be on this app. While people are looking for events, community groups or schools- they will also be able to see your business listing.

I’m an event organiser. How can you help me to get the word out about the event I am organising in my town?

The app contains an event calendar that you will be able to list your event on. As this list can contain every event happening in your town it can also help you to plan the best dates for your next event!

How does listing on the app help my school?

Your school will receive four free event listings per year which can be used to advertise the school fete, other fundraisers, volunteers for the school canteen, the dates of the P & C meetings and open days. If you need more than that you’ll be able to purchase space at $30 per listing (or capped packages at $160 per year).

I think it’d work best for tourists. Is that the main audience?

We actively engage with travellers and tourists by placing cards in hotel rooms and caravan parks around the regions encouraging visitors to do more in the town they are visiting. We are also very active in the communities, ensuring that our residents have all the information they need.

It’s a platform devised to engage everyone in the dynamic life of a regional town.

Our community has a digital strategy and we’ve tried other platforms before. We don’t think it’s for us.

Big data mining and community or industry wide digital strategies are in place across most communities and usually result in comprehensive websites, social media strategies for engagement and using google ad words to promote online resources.

Just Like A Local offers a whole of community approach, generally very different to the tourism or business focussed strategies adopted by business or tourism development corporations.

We’ve got a website and we’ve got social media pages. Why do we need to be on Just Like A Local?

Your website link can be added to your listing, directing people to your comprehensive information. Social media is a great tool but keeping your information in front of your followers can be difficult as there is so much information there.

This app offers up to date, relevant information about your town and its assets in a cost effective manner.
